Competition Opportunities

  1. Invitational Tournaments
    • Tournaments can be found most weekends from October through March
    • Invitations can often be secured just by asking!
    • Tabroom.com offers a resource for finding tournaments
    • Liberty Bell Classic (UPenn)
    • Villiger at St. Joseph's University
    • La Salle Forum Invitational
    • Pennsbury Falcon Invitational
  2. Southeastern PA Debate League (SPDL)
    • Six contests every other Wednesday from November through January
    • Workshop opportunities in October
    • Playoffs in February
  3. PA High School Speech League (PHSSL)
    • No regular season contests
    • District tournaments are held in February, with winners qualifying for the state tournament
    • Bid opportunities exist for students with a strong competitive resume
    • Supplemental events exist at States for students who competed at districts but did not qualify
      • Congress (House), news broadcasting, impromptu speaking, storytelling or extemporaneous debate.
    • UMASD used to be in District 11 (with La Salle, Gwynned Mercy Academy, St. Joe's Prep, et al.
    • Current map puts KOP at the boundary of District 15 (lots of Chester County schools), District 10 (lots of Delaware County and Main Line schools)
    • State Tournament held in March (third weekend?)at Commonwealth University, Bloomsburg.
  4. National Catholic Forensics League (NCFL)
    • Districts are organized by diocese, but schools need not be Catholic to participate
    • Three tournaments are held by Philadelphia CFL (PCFL)
    • PCFL district tournament is held in February (last weekend?)
    • NCFL National Tournament is held in May (Memorial Day weekend?)
  5. National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA)
    • Valley Forge District tournament held on different days for different events from late February through mid-March (Info for District Tournaments)
    • NSDA National Tournament held in June (third week? Sunday - Friday) 2026 Nationals
